School Meals

All students should have a water bottle brought in, full, at the start of the day, which can be refilled as necessary during the school day.

The canteen is open at break for all students with a selection of snacks.

School Meals

Our priority is to provide a delicious, nutritionally balanced meal to all of our students, regardless of their individual dietary requirements. Hot and cold options are available every day, with vegetarian, gluten or soya free alternatives available and our kitchen is completely nut free.

Meals are no longer served in disposable pots or cartons, but on a ceramic plate with metal cutlery.

Main meal options run on a 4-weekly rotation, with favourites such as jacket potatoes or pasta and cold options such as sandwiches and fruit pots available every day.  The link below will take you to the latest weekly menu choices.

Daily Spend Limits

The school operates a cashless system reducing the problems of cash in the school and encouraging healthy eating. Payment can be made online via The School Gateway

If you would like to set a specific daily limit for your child, please inform the payments office by emailing payments@smcc.devon.sch.uk.  If you have already recently requested an increase or decrease, thank you for doing so and therefore ignore this request.

Free School Meals

The free school meal daily allowance is £2.50.

If your child is in receipt of free school meals and you would like them to have a little extra, payment can be added via the School Gateway App. Other means of payment are available by enquiring with the schools' Payments Office.

School Meals Debt

As the Local Authority is no longer accountable for the administration of dinner money debt the responsibility now falls on the school to pursue instances of non-payment. As a result, the school budget will have to directly fund any outstanding debts that cannot be recovered thereby directly affecting the amount of money that is available to provide education to all pupils.

Here at SMCC, we would like parents to inform us if there is any financial difficulty in providing your child(ren) with a meal so that we can provide advice/assistance where necessary and potentially help you to get the right support where possible.  We would not want to see any child go without food.

Parents who meet certain criteria may qualify for Free School Meals.  Free School Meals are a statutory right and it is important that all parents/carers who qualify take up their child’s entitlement so that they can receive a school meal each day.

Payment for School Meals

As a school, we wish to avoid a situation which allows parents/carers to accrue large amounts of debt for school meals, which can then be difficult to clear. Payment for school meals can be made in advance using the online payment system ‘School Gateway’. When logged into this, you can easily see the balance on account as well as items purchased in the school canteen.

Parents/carers will receive an automated message when funds need to be replenished to ensure your child has enough credit on account.

Parents/carers should contact the school if there is a genuine reason why they are unable to pay.
